1701 was my first ANNO expereince ,and I quite liked it, its like Sim City, with Economics and a bit of Age of Empires thrown in.

yeah, have 1701 special edition and it's a really nice game. also tried the new game's demo and I fairly pleased so far (though I still need more time with it for a verdict).

beware though, ubisoft slammed a fairly nasty drm on the thing. something with limited activations as in spore. in case that's an issue. I also think it goes by a different name overeas, something dawn of discovery.

Actually, it probably uses the same Tages system the other Anno games have (the demo does).

I'm also a fan of 1701, and the demo for this one played well, too. Certainly an interesting era, having you starting off in 1404.

According to the german Amazon-reviews you only get 3 activations and there is no revocation tool or getting activations back by uninstalling the game.

If you really want the game wait until it's available online, maybe Steam or Impulse (if they even get this) will have some saner limits.

I think the DRM activation stuff will be removed after 3-4 months , I could swear they did that in a patch for 1701, but I can't seem to find proof.

If by 'they' you mean the pirates...it only took them 3-4 days at most

BTW can you guys figure out how to 'expand' your colony? The tutorial said build another marketplace but I can never seems to get the new market place to extend the buildable range of my industries. Any idea?
