I've never beta tested a game but I did beta test Packet Tracer 4. It's a program by Cisco that basically allows you to simulate setting up and configuring all the hardware that goes into LANs and WANs such as switches and routers. Was a lot of fun playing with that thing trying to break it or find cases where a switch or router didn't behave as it should when configured a certain way.

Duke Nukem Forever I am guessing is the longest beta test ever... If it's being beta tested, lol..... Someone must be playing it to get the bugs out...

I could, of course, name windows, which most of us are kind of beta testing  as the longest beta ever. 

However, VGA Planets 4 if *officialy* in beta for 5 years now

Granted, given the quality of games nowadays, most companies would have slaped the gold sticker on this game more than 2 years ago, as there are only very minor bugs (IMO) and some balance issues left. But the game keeps getting tweaked again and again, mostly after requests, followed by a few weeks of discussion, from the community (which is a good thing IMO)
