Random craziness from my brain, oh and stuff about games I play on Impulse and Steam.
One thread to hold them all!
Published on February 3, 2008 By lordkosc In Sins of a Solar Empire

Ok , after the 20 or so preview threads that were all over the darn place, I am making a single location where we can post all the reviews of the game for easy reference.

So once you find a review, post it in the following format:

I hope this will be made sticky by someone from SD.

How can a linear campaign, that has the chance of being weakly designed and beaten in less than a week, make the game considerably better?\

Anyway: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=93758

I like this quote:

"Reservations? The main one is the complete absence of a campaign mode - despite the ripe background material inherent in the game world, it's not actually presented to you in a string of scenarios. This isn't a problem for me, personally, but others will want a structured way into the game's intricacies. As it is, the extra effort Ironclad has put into the skirmish mode, including the random maps, makes it clear that its peers are more the Civilizations and GalCivs of this world than Company of Heroes. Hell, if you're playing on one of the huge maps, I've played RTS campaigns that could be over before a single map is fought to victory, at least before you get the hang of it."

Single Player Review: 8.5/10

Multiplayer Review: 9/10

Singleplayer Review Snippet:

Fantastic game, been playing it since launch. If you like RTS, then this is one to get for sure.

I have played, in total now, 30 hours of Sins. I know this because after every game you get an exhaustive report. This stats-based ending is always gratifying if you have done well and mind blowing if you see how far off the mark you actually were. Yes, the AI in Sins is of a high standard. Not a single time that I left a homeworld undefended did it stand.

Multiplayer Review Snippet:

What is the best thing in life? The love of a good women? The smile of a child?

Mongol General: Wrong! Conan! What is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women.

A few of those who read my original review of Sins Of A Solar Empire(Sins for short) have commented that they are still on the fence regarding this game's greatness.

Some have pointed to the dream of Homeworld III, which is wishful thinking really and at least a year off, others have said that the depth of Sins does not extend to the actual engagements themselves and claim that the stronger force (numerically speaking) will always win:

That is not true at all!

Ironclad has created a masterpiece which will be enjoyed for many months and hopefully years to come.I miss the days when the gaming industry was about innovation and not recreation. Thank you, Ironclad, and Stardock, for contributing to the former and not the latter.

I'll second that....

Hello everyone!

There is another review available, but only in German, sorry for that! You can find the review at our website www.jcm-gamers.de.
The direct link to the review: Review

We gave the game 9.0/10 for the gameplay, 8.0/10 for the graphics and 8.5/10 for the great sound.

A little bit info about us: we are non-profit oriented and write reviews in our free time. If there is any interest, we could try to translate the review...

And we hope Stardock will find a publisher for germany, so that everyone can play the game. Although we can order it via Stardock Central with credit card, most people prefer a boxed copy.

But keep up the good work! This game is surely one of the greatest hits fpr 2008!

I found a review at 4players - a german online mag that do generally very good reviews. they give the game 84% (which is pretty considering their averages) and mainly critise tacical combat, race similarity and multiplayer techncal stability. here is the link:
