horribly written, basic elementary review with no justification of the score. and the funny thing is, right above it there is an "average score meter" which shows a 9.2

and these people get paid to do this!! give me that job please!

Just admit, it didn't get a 9/10, so the review sucks. It's okay to be honest.

Also, IMHO, seemed pretty well written to me.

I thought it was well written as well, and an 8.5 means a lot from 1up. They tend to use most of the scale and if you compare it to most games, that is a very good score from them.

They also like ripping into games that slip up even slightly. Supreme Commander for example.

Honestly, if someone rates Sins badly, that's entirely within their right to do so. We shouldn't flip out when someone doesn't like the game, it's not for everyone, and lets face it, Sins isn't perfect.

With that being said, an 8.5 is good =P

I actually have to agree with Megadeth... that was a pretty terrible review from 1up. I have no problem with a score of 8.5, but that piece was pretty awful. It didn't even end, it just kind of stopped... I was looking for a "Next Page" or "Page 2" link, but there wasn't one.

But whatever. An 8.5 is an 8.5, and Sins deserves any and all praise it gets, no matter how poorly written.

8.5 from 1up is good, I mean Crysis did get a 8 from there(which I think was BS).

What was horrible about it then? To me, it was concise, getting straight to the main points without forcing me to read a gazillion pages, really didn't seem grammatically inept, and (not that is matters) gave good a score to the game.

I dunno, I dont think the 1up review gave a clear description how the game works, what choices you have and how the two genres are linked. I also didnt see much justification for the score, basically everything was positive in there.

but then, when gamespot lost my faith, I searched for more good online mags and had ruled 1up out, because some other reviews of games I knew were similarily short and uninformative in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm in the camp that didn't think the review was poorly written. In fact, they didn't whine about the whole "lack of single player campaign" aspect, so I was quite happy with the review.
