For those of us going to see the Movie this weekend ahead, its best to make sure you've read the Countdown.

Here is the super summarized version from memory-beta.wikia.com , read all 4 parts, as it will get you up to speed as to the events that lead up to the movie's start, and some very good back story!

Wow.

What a crock of s**t.

This is a lead-up to to the beginings of the original Star Trek series? Or, is it another 'alternate' ST universe, once again?

The whole storyline of those 4 links sounds like it could have come from a 13 year old - not to mention that the events take place in the distant future from the original Enterprise D mission (even from The Next Generation series).

TNG was stardate 4xxx - our date, 2,4xx. So using a stardate of 6xxx would indicate the 26th century.

Bogus, to say the least.

Parody as usual will precede the real thing, if only to mock Trekkers.

I even find the pseudo-poster amusing, i will not allow you to lecture me - either.

Countdown: "Number One" begins on stardate 64333.4, in 2387.

So the timeline is correct.

Captain Data? Is data not dead?

This is a bit confusing.

I'm sorry, how exactly is this connected to the movie?

The countdown to the motion picture event of 2009 begins here, in the exclusive comics prequel to the upcoming blockbuster Star Trek! J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzman present the origin of Nero, the mysterious Romulan who will ultimately threaten the survival of the entire universe.

So Nemessis never happened? Data is ressurected?  Maybe he's like Elvis and he just never died.

Hey guys, head on over to    www.startrekonline.com   and read up on the section  "The Path to 2409."  It is listed under the   "Universe"  tab, and it fills in the gap between the end of Nemesis and the beginning of  the new Star Trek MMO game to be released next year.  Supposedly all info given is to be considered lore in the Star Trek Cannon.  A lot of good reading in there, and it answers some of the questions you may have about the crew of the Enterprise E, post Nemesis.  It also may help out with understanding the "Countdown" leading up to the beginning of the new movie.

Completely independant perspective over Nero "backstory" not written by people who worked for real on Abrams' feature film. Countdown is certainly not a Story by Orci & Kurtzman unless www.memory-beta.wikia.com can produce the signed & legal Release Form(s) and authorization gained by their publisher.

Yet another example of opportunists which still exploit the Star Trek Universe claiming to have formal links with Paramount or otherwise. It's widespread and has been for eons.

Validate your sources for some truth if you want but be warned that there are numerous byproducts of Trek, cannon or otherwise.

I am going to see the movie tomorrow noon at the colossus in laval for anybody who might be interested.

here is a review I found very interesting

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/star-trek/5290539/Star-Trek-review.html

Still, complaints of insufficiently evil interior decorating hardly put much of a dent in Abrams’s achievement. This is a grand success – perhaps a new populist benchmark in what to do with a flagging franchise, and a witty, light-on-its-feet prequel which makes instant toast of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. May it live long and prosper, by which we mean, sequels, soon, please.

Thanks for the superb link, i invite you to write your observations & emotions into this **SPOILERS** thread once your mind gobbles up the entire scope (possibly over a weekend of coherent but magical thoughts, i suspect), not through reactions but by clear opinion.

Sadly, i work toworrow afternoon and as usual for two more days & nights... but i will go to the Colossus myself possibly on Monday or Wednesday -- short of having anyone to discuss with after the fact, it's still a ride worth more than spending money.

correct me if i'm wrong but isnt the movie picking up Kirk and Spock? That is way before Picard generation...
