The 8800GT 512MB card was released today, is anyone else getting one?

It pretty much beats anything under a 8800GTX, at the low cost of only $249.99

Infact , it actually runs as fast as a 8800GTX as long as you keep the resolution below 1600x1200, after that it on average is 8-12% slower than a GTX.

Its been compared to the price : value ratio of such great cards as the Ti4200 and the GeForce 7800GT

Why regret? It's an awesome card

Though really until this summer/fall there were few games that actually needed it. But I wouldn't try playing WiC/Crysis without it.. Crysis especially

On that note, Multi, did the guys who ran those tests post what other settings in Crysis they used? At 1600x1200 and 4xAA/16xAF I don't get ~30 FPS with everything else on high.. Could well be they have the final engine build too, but I would assume the SP demo would as well snice the game's out in a little over 2 weeks.

what i read from your post was

But one thing im amazed about is that you can get 2 GT for the price of one GTX

nope, but they did other tests without the AA/AT.
30FPS might change from GTX to GTX as there are OC versions, i for one got a OC2 from BFG that runs at 621/2000 and ill have to test the difference of the 2 drivers 163,75 and 169,01.

yeah, that one will prolly be announced when ATI gets ready to announce a new one...

GeForce 9800 GTX will be over two times faster than a GeForce 8800 Ultra in real world games and applcations. There will be an cheaper, less faster 9800 GTS also releasing November.

From what I've seen, at 'realistic' resolutions (those not restricted to people who can afford 24"+ monitors), the GT beats the GTS in most situations, owing largely to its greater number of shaders and high clock rates. It's only at the very highest resolutions that the narrower memory bus comes into play. Looks like this'll be the card that brings DX10 to everyone else who's been waiting for a decent deal. Much as I prefer ATI historically, I doubt they'll pull out much improvement from the x2950.

x2950 doesn't exist anymore, its called the HD38XX something... meh... ATI

Historically I've used ATI cards... they were always pretty comparable to Nvidia, but what can I say, Nvidia pulled out ahead

Well, they were significantly better than Nvidia in the last generation -- HDR + AA, and better shader power made them nice on shader-heavy games.

More importantly, drivers that actually work properly. But when the other guys have such a brutal hardware advantage, it doesn't mean so much.

LOL, that too. And, on top of that, the third party control panel is much better too -- I really miss my ATI Tray Tools, but alas it won't work with my GTX.
